$75K in Grateful Dead memorabilia stolen in McHenry County

WGN: Grateful Dead memorabilia stolen from auction house in Illinois.

UNION, Ill. — Police are investigating the theft of about $75,000 worth of Grateful Dead memorabilia.

One painting and four posters were stolen from Donley’s Auction Services in Union, Ill., about a week after the auction ended last month.

The most valuable piece stolen was a hand-painted, 1966 original Stanley Mouse/Alton Kelley Family Dog painting of a skeleton with roses. It became an iconic symbol for the band.

The auction house is offering a reward for their safe return.
