On Veterans’ Day, Henry Phelps of Tennessee finally received his High School diploma.
Phelps was drafted into the Navy in 1943, before he was able to graduate from Everett High School in Blount County, writes WBIR.com. He was stationed aboard the USS Raymond, earning five battle stars and the Presidential Unit Citation for heroism in the Battle of Samar.
Phelps was honorably discharged in 1946, after the end of World War II.
Now, 70 years later, he’s finally getting his high school diploma. The VA’s office presented it to him Wednesday, on Veterans Day, at a ceremony held in the Blount County Courthouse.
