Fox News Fires Bob Beckel

Fox News Channel parted ways with liberal pundit Bob Beckel, according to a statement from the company.  Both sides state that he was out for surgery.

Beckel, now former co-host of The Five, is a Democrat and liberal strategist who disappeared from the anchor chair Feb. 16, writes USA Today.

Initially, the cable news outlet told the website Mediaite that the split was “amicable.”  However, shortly thereafter, Fox News executive Bill Shine released a statement saying The Five could no longer be held “hostage to one man’s personal issues.” (Beckel had been out for several months, recovering from surgery and undergoing rehab treatment for prescription medication addiction.)

“He took tremendous advantage of our generosity, empathy and goodwill and we simply came to the end of the road with him,” Shine stated, which seemingly put an end to the idea that parting ways was “amicable.”

Beckel also writes freelance opinion features for USA TODAY, penning “Common Ground” with Cal Thomas.

For his part, Bob Beckel tweeted that he did not understand Fox’s frustration and was disappointed.
