Is Governor Bobby Jindal Creating A ‘Litmus Test’ For Conservatives?

Bobby Jindal

Goveror Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, in an op-ed Thursday in the New York Times writes why multiple corporations have expressed opposition to religious freedom laws that frighten gay-rights advocates.

Those corporations, Jindal says, are being manipulated by left-wing radicals.

“Liberals have decided that if they can’t win at the ballot box,” Jindal writes, “they will win in the boardroom.”

“His point is obvious,” writes nola.com.   “These corporations wouldn’t be taking such a wild and crazy position if they were really controlled by conservatives. Ergo, Big Business must have been taken over by liberals.”

Not only is Jindal suggesting in his op-ed that the gay rights and conservatism are incompatible, and that liberals have taken over the country’s boardrooms, but he’s also revealing some peculiar ideas about the free market.

For example, don’t business leaders have the right to take whatever positions they think will advance their business? Won’t businesses be “punished” for making the “wrong” decisions on gay marriage?

Nola.com makes the point that Governor Jindal seems to be creating a “litmus test” for conservatives.

After criticizing those liberals who he says have taken over the country’s boardrooms and made them hostile to religion and overly zealous about gay rights, Jindal says that “it’s time for corporate America to make a decision.”

Will gay marriage (or “anti-gay marriage”) be a “litmus test” for the Republican party?

Reagan-Era Conservative Buchanan Disagrees With Fox News’ Sean Hannity On Iran

Secular Talk

“Old-Time” conservative Pat Buchanan “gets it” about Iran and the fight against ISIS.

The fight in Iraq is the Sunni rebel ISIS against Iran-backed Shia Muslims.

Buchanan was a senior advisor to Nixon, Ford, and Reagan, according to Wikipedia.

Fox News’ Sean Hannity doesn’t seem to understand the situation on the ground in the Middle East.  He apparently wants the United States to fight both sides in the battle of Sunni rebel ISIS vs. Iran-backed Shia. The U.S. has to pick a side – hopefully the lesser of two evils.

In World War II, you wouldn’t fight both the Nazis AND Britain.  You pick a side.  Hannity doesn’t seem to get it.

Is Indiana’s Governor Making An ‘About-Face’ On New Law?

Indiana Governor Mike Pence said today that he “mishandled” the passage of a religious freedom law and he now wants a piece of legislation to “clarify” that it does not give anyone the right to discriminate in the state.

“This law does not give anyone a license to deny services to gay and lesbian couples. I could have handled that better this week,” he said, according to ABC News.

The move comes just as the House of Representatives in Arkansas passed amendments to a similar religious freedom bill that is expected to be signed into law when the governor signs the complete version, something that has already announced that he plans to do.

Pence said that he has been working with state legislators and businesses “literally around the clock” to work through the controversy, saying that “discrimination was never part of his plan.”

“I don’t believe for a minute that it was the intention of the general assembly. … It certainly wasn’t my intent but I can appreciate that that’s become the perception … and we need to confront that and we need to confront that boldly,” he said.

The changes that Pence mentioned are expected to be put into a “stripped version” of an election-related bill that is supposed to be debated Wednesday or Thursday by a conference committee. That is what Indiana’s Republican speaker of the House’s spokesman Brian Bosma told ABC News.

Correction

This website previously posted that Coca-Cola executive Wendy Clark took leave from Coca-Cola to work for possible Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

That post is being retracted and OK, Fine apologizes and regrets the error.

That information was printed in the right-wing publication The Weekly Standard.  There was also information about it in the Wall Street Journal, and Beverage Digest.

The editor (and founder) of The Weekly Standard is the right-wing neo-conservative pundit William “Bill” Kristol.

While Wall Street Journal confirmed that Clark indeed has taken an unpaid leave of absence from Coke, there is no confirmation from any source that she has taken a job for Hillary Clinton.

Wikipedia:

“William Kristol (born December 23, 1952) is an American neoconservative political analyst and commentator. He is the founder and editor of the political magazine The Weekly Standard and a political commentator on several networks.

“Kristol is associated with a number of prominent conservative think tanks. He was chairman of the New Citizenship Project from 1997 to 2005. In 1997, he co-founded the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) with Robert Kagan. He is a member of the board of trustees for the free-market Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, a member of the Policy Advisory Board for the Ethics and Public Policy Center, and a director of the Foreign Policy Initiative. He is also one of the three board members of Keep America Safe, a think tank co-founded by Liz Cheney and Debra Burlingame, and serves on the board of the Emergency Committee for Israel and the Susan B. Anthony List.”

Wikipedia states, “Kristol was a leading proponent of the Iraq War.”

Wikipedia also states, “Kristol rejected comparisons to Vietnam and predicted a ‘two month war, not an eight year war’ during a March 28 CSPAN appearance.”

Strange: Man Claims MLK For The Tea Party

Video by Eric Dolan

Recently, YouTube conservative “Wild Bill” Finlay claimed Martin Luther King for the Tea Party during a speech to the South Carolina Tea Party Coalition convention.

He also said that “if Martin Luther King Jr. was alive today, the liberal left would spit in his face because he would be such a threat to their political agendas.”

Can A Liberal Have Conservative Qualities?

Kyle Kulinski explains that liberals can also have some conservative qualities. For example, some liberals may not really like change; at the same time, they do want health insurance.
