Senator Believes That Police Chief Who Exposed Josh Duggar Should Face Criminal Charges

TYT Network

A Republican politician in Arkansas called for the termination of the police chief who released a 2006 offense report alleging that Josh Duggar, of TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting,” molested five underage girls when he was a teenager.

State Senator Bart Hester (R) told local TV station KFSM that he believed Springdale Police Chief Kathy O’Kelly compromised the identities of the eldest Duggar’s alleged victims by releasing the police report, writes Talking Points Memo.

“I believe it is unavoidable that the Springdale police chief should be terminated. She has re-victimized these young ladies,” said Hester.

Tabloid magazine In Touch Weekly reportedly published the offense report, which it obtained through a public records request.

According to TPM, the names of the victims, as well as Josh Duggar’s name, were redacted. The report was destroyed the same day it was published in the magazine by order of Judge Stacey Zimmerman, writes TPM.

Are Generic Drugs Regulated Differently Than Brand-Name Drugs?

Ring of Fire Radio

Companies who make generic drugs are not allowed to change their warning label if a new problem is found with the drug.  However, brand-name drugs are required to change their warning label if a new problem is found with the drug, states Ring of Fire Radio.

The FDA was supposed to issue new rules last year to make generic drugs safer for consumers and change their regulations.  However, so far, they’ve failed to take any action, which is leaving patients at risk and lets pharmaceutical companies go free.

Here, Farron Cousins discusses this with attorney Howard Nations.

What Is The Truth With Arsenic In Inexpensive Wine?

Ring of Fire Radio.

Ring of Fire Radio claims that only the worst winemakers are worried about the arsenic lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed in California against some wineries for having high arsenic levels in their wines. Some of these include huge-selling wines by Menage A Trois, Sutter Home, Beringer and Fetzer.

Ring of Fire claims the “bottom feeders” in the wine industry have taken advantage of the increased popularity of wine as they cut corners to raise their profits.  Lawyer Mike Papantonio discusses the dangers inside cheap wines with attorney Mike Burg.

Did The Daily Show Hold Corporate Media Accountable?

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were instrumental in showing us how dysfunctional the corporate news has become.

They are both moving on, and a void has been created that needs to be filled with the same kind of poignant broadcasting that will keep young viewers interested in the world.

Arlington Gas Well Reportedly Sealed After Leak

startelegramvideo

A natural gas well in Arlington, Texas, was sealed up on Sunday by a company called Boots and Coots after a mishap at the drilling site.  The Fort Worth Star-Telegram states that the issue  prompted voluntary evacuations of homes.

No natural gas was reportedly released during the incident, city officials said, but 115 people were asked to leave their homes during the third effort to plug the well, according to the Star-Telegram.

Just before 3:30 p.m., Arlington city officials claimed that the well was sealed off and residents could go home. Those asked to evacuate had homes within an eighth of a mile from Vantage Energy’s Lake Arlington Baptist Church well site.

“This was a very serious situation,” Arlington Fire Chief Don Crowson said in a prepared statement.

“To get this incident under control, we worked closely with all city departments, Vantage Energy, AISD, the Red Cross and our faith-based organizations. Working together, we resolved this as quickly and safely as possible.”

At about 3 p.m. Saturday, Vantage Energy called 911 to report that natural gas was pushing pressurized fracking water out of the well.

As a precaution, the Fire Department at first evacuated 13 nearby homes. The evacuation zone was expanded at about noon Sunday after two efforts to plug the leaking well were unsuccessful. The well was reportedly brought under control around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Public safety crews created dirt berms to contain fracking water that was back-flowing out of the well. Fire officials said the water did not enter Lake Arlington, a source of the city’s drinking water.

They said the drilling company would need to remedy effects of the incident at the drilling site. The Fire Department and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality conducted air monitoring, and no flammable gases were detected, Crowson said..

To help displaced residents, the Red Cross opened an Emergency Evacuation post at Martin High School in Arlington.

The drilling incident comes just days before a proposed state law, House Bill 40, comes up for debate in the Texas Legislature on Tuesday.

The bill, which would bolster state control over urban drilling, had to be rewritten after city officials complained during a contentious hearing in Austin that it limits local government influence over urban drilling.

The bill limits local control to surface activities such as noise abatement and trucking. Attempts to ban drilling would not be allowed.

Shortly before the well was brought under control, Fire Chief Crowson met with an elected state official Sunday afternoon at an Arlington fire station to reaffirm the need for cities to maintain local control.

“I’m concerned there is a potential that local control may be lessened. It is exactly local control that keeps the local community safe,” Crowson said.

Arlington has 56 pad sites with 306 gas wells, Crowson said. While the Fire Department has responded to gas releases and other incidents at pad sites in the past, Crowson said this was the first time an emergency well control team had to be called in.

CNN: Jordan May Get More Involved Against ISIS

According to CNN, the recent execution of Jordanian pilot Moath al-Kasasbeh being burned alive was different than the previously publicized executions of journalists and tourists: the victim was a Muslim.

Al-Kasasbeh was from a prominent Sunni tribal family in Jordan, and his killing has sparked outrage.

Support in Jordan for King Abdullah’s involvement in the anti-ISIS coalitions is now stronger than before, according to CNN.  There has also been outrage across the Sunni Arab world, with the head of Egypt’s Al-Azhar University, Sunni Islam’s most prestigious center of learning, reportedly calling for ISIS fighters to be crucified.

The video of the execution was a calculated move by ISIS to weaken the resolve of Jordan and other Sunni Arab powers that have joined the U.S.-led coalition against the terror group.

However, early signs indicate the video, which may have been shot up to a month ago, has had the opposite result, creating a significant backlash from Sunnis in the region.

Spreading propaganda terror has worked before for ISIS, allowing it to punch above its weight.

Prior to launching an assault on Mosul in June, the group released a series of videos showing the militants brutalizing and killing Iraqi soldiers they had captured. It put the scare in the Iraqi army. When ISIS fighters attacked Mosul, Iraqi soldiers turned and fled despite greatly outnumbering the attackers.

The release of the video to coincide with Jordanian King Abdullah II’s visit to the United States may have been deliberate — the optics of the Jordanian King in Washington served ISIS’ narrative of the kingdom being a puppet for the “Crusaders.”

While the video has rallied ISIS’ most hard-line supporters and will likely help persuade some foreign fighters to join it, it is also likely to shrink its potential pool of recruits.

The reality is that burning to death a fellow Muslim is at odds with mainstream Islamic teaching and even some ISIS sympathizers may have second thoughts. It’s a point underscored in November when Sulaimaan Samuel, a mentor in a UK Home Office scheme to prevent radicalization, said ISIS’ beheading of British aid worker Alan Henning was putting off young British Muslims from joining the group.

In the long run, ISIS’ brutality is not a winning strategy, as al Qaeda has recognized. Exactly a year before the release of the video of the Jordanian pilot being burned alive, al Qaeda’s general command cut ties to ISIS for its excess brutality and killing of Muslims.

In the coming weeks, Jordan is likely to step up its air campaign against ISIS in Syria and Iraq. But its greatest contribution to the anti-ISIS coalition will likely be its significant intelligence gathering capabilities in those two countries, which we can expect to be expanded. Jordan intelligence played a key role in gathering intelligence that led to the U.S. airstrike that killed Jordanian ISIS founder Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq in June 2006.

Of course, such expanded action carries the risk that ISIS will retaliate with attacks in Jordan. The executions of Sajida al-Rishawi, an ISIS female icon who was part of a team that killed almost 60 in hotels in Amman in 2005, and Ziad Karbouli, an al-Zarqawi aide captured in 2006, has deeply angered the group.

Jordan already has a significant home-grown radicalization problem — as many as 2,000 Jordanians are believed to have traveled to Syria and Iraq to fight, many with ISIS. Meanwhile, several Jordanian fighters appeared in an ISIS video released last year calling for King Abdullah to be slaughtered.

Also, last summer there were significant pro-ISIS demonstrations in Zarqa (Al Qaeda leader al-Zarqawi’s birthplace) and Ma’an by extremists excited by ISIS’ declaration of an Islamic caliphate.

Altogether, there are an estimated 9,000 pro-jihadi extremists in Jordan, according to The Associated Press, and analysts fear that number is growing due to high unemployment and other socioeconomic problems that are creating a fertile atmosphere for recruitment. Another worry is the presence of extremists among the 620,000 Syrian refugees who have fled to Jordan.

All that said, the picture in Jordan is not all bad — its overwhelmingly Sunni population at least has meant there is relatively little sectarian tension. And the brutal burning to death of one of their own has also mobilized Jordan’s conservative tribes against ISIS.

Michigan ‘Doomsday Prepper’ Dies After Setting Fire To House

According to WSBT.com and the South Bend Tribune, a Michigan man went on a shooting spree Saturday night, leaving nearby homes riddled with bullet holes.

That was followed by an apparent standoff ending with the gunman supposedly setting fire to his home and turning the weapon on himself.

Neighbors described the man as a “doomsday prepper.”  Michigan State Police say it all unfolded at a home in a mobile home park.

A fire combined with what some eyewitnesses say was the sound of thousands of rounds of gunfire going off inside one trailer, almost sounding like 4th of July fireworks. The smell of gunpowder was thick in the air.

When the smoke finally cleared police found one man dead inside.

The first complaint was about shots fired, but it turned into so much more.

When troopers arrived, they did hear gunshots and then saw smoke and later flames, which engulfed the home and apparently started setting off ammunition explosions inside.

The only death was that of the shooter.
