Unarmed Man Shot In Baltimore Suburb

Baltimore County police officers shot and killed an unarmed man in Baltimore suburb of Owings Mills early Thursday, writes the Baltimore Sun. The Herald-Standard claimed that the man was going to commit suicide.

The police were responding to a report of domestic violence at a home they had visited more than a dozen times over the past three years.

Spencer Lee McCain, 41, died about 8 a.m. at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, police said.

The Herald-Standard:

“An unarmed black man killed by Baltimore County police told his girlfriend’s mother that he was going to commit suicide as officers were on their way to his home after reports of domestic violence, the mother said Thursday.”

Baltimore County Police Chief Jim Johnson said officers believed McCain was armed. However, they did not find a weapon on him, writes the Baltimore Sun.

Police received a 911 call about a possible domestic disturbance at the condominium in the 3000 block of Hunting Ridge Drive in Owings Mills shortly after 1 a.m., Johnson said. He said a 10-year-old child who lived at the home called a grandmother, who dialed 911.

He said the first officer to arrive knew of a history of domestic violence calls at the home. Since 2012, police said, officers responded to 911 calls for the address 17 times, including several reports of fighting.

Cincinnati Man Set ‘Trap’ For Police: Suicide By Cop?

Trepierre Hummons called 911 then waited with a gun for police to arrive, according to Cincinnati police. When they did, he shot and killed 48-year-old Officer Sonny Kim, a husband and father of three, police said.

Then he opened fire on two more officers, said Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffery Blackwell.

Not long before, he had made a Facebook post that seemed to indicate a plan to commit suicide by cop, according to CNN.

The police, while armed, didn’t know what they’d walked into. When when the 21-year-old Hummons called the emergency operator, he didn’t hint at his plan.

Earlier, he had pretended to be a concerned witness who’d seen a man acting erratically with a gun, according to 911 and dispatch tapes released by police.  Then he gave a description of himself in a shaky voice. “Very early 20s … about like 5 (foot) 6 … he’s a little thick fellow.”

The operator took down his name and number.  Hummons thanked her. The dispatcher notified a policeman in the area.

Hummons dialed 911 again to make sure police were on their way, and he repeated his location.

The dispatcher notified the policeman again. “Copy, I’m in the area,” the officer answered her before bursting into shouts: “Shots fired! Shots fired!”

Hummons wounded Kim multiple times in spite of the protective vest he wore, the police chief said. And when a probation officer arrived moments later, Hummons shot at him, too.

At some point, Hummons’ mother came out to the street.

“The suspect then returned to Police Officer Kim, who was lying wounded on the street and began to fight with him in an effort to take the officer’s firearm,” Police Chief Blackwell said.

Kim struggled as he bled, but couldn’t hang on to his weapon. A third officer, Tom Sandmann, arrived, and Hummons used Kim’s gun to fire at him. But Sandmann returned fire and wounded Hummons.

Both Hummons and Kim later died at a hospital, according to CNN.

According to Raw Story, an Iowa security guard – with a Facebook account loaded with open-carry and right-wing memes and photos of multiple weapons – is under arrest for shooting and killing a fellow mall worker after she filed sexual harassment complaints against him. A later report stated that the man was fired from his job before the shooting took place.

According to The Gazette newspaper, the man, Alex Kozak, was taken into custody after shooting 20-year-old Andrea Farrington three times in the back while she was at work at the Iowa Children’s Museum in the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville, Iowa.

Police say that the 22-year-old Kozak left the mall, retrieved a 9mm Glock handgun from his home, and then returned to shoot Farrington late Friday night, writes Raw Story.

Drug War Backfire? Jalisco Cartel Shoots Down Mexican Gov’t Helicopter

Six soldiers were killed when gunmen from the New Generation Jalisco Cartel used a rocket-propelled grenade to bring down an army helicopter that was pursuing a cartel convoy on Friday, the national security commissioner, Monte Alejandro Rubido, told Televisa.

At least 15 other people were killed and 19 injured in a coordinated show of strength by the cartel which included several shootouts with soldiers and police, and involved hundreds of low-level operatives who set up roadblocks with burning cars, buses and trucks in Jalisco and three neighbouring states. Eleven banks and five petrol stations were also set ablaze.

Areas of drug cartel influence are located in red.  Jalisco is a “state” in southern Mexico, the capital of which is is Guadalajara.

NYPD Officer Shot

A New York City police officer was shot in the head Saturday night, states the Associated Press.  The man accused of shooting the officer will be arraigned Sunday on charges including two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, officials said.

No evidence has been given that the shooting was related to protests or riots.

Demetrius Blackwell was arrested Saturday night in the shooting of Officer Brian Moore, who remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

The AP:  “Bratton said Blackwell has a criminal record that includes a weapons possession charge, but the suspect made no such anti-police postings and was being pursued by the anti-crime officers because of his behavior.”

Blackwell, 35, was expected to be arraigned Sunday afternoon, the Queens district attorney’s office said. It was not clear if he had a lawyer.

Bizarre: Man Hits Child In Car, Stops To Help, Gets Shot

A motorist who knocked down and killed a two-year-old girl in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has been shot dead after stopping to help at the scene of the accident.

A gunman, apparently enraged that a van had struck a 2-year-old boy Sunday in Milwaukee, not only “assassinated” the driver of the van – in the words of Mayor Tom Barrett – but also shot the toddler’s 15-year-old brother, who had rushed to the scene.  The 15-year-old boy, who was not in the vehicle, was shot in the shoulder and later died in hospital.

The accident happened on Sunday at 5:10pm after the child ran into the street and was hit by a van.

Rasheed T. Chiles, 15, had been attending a party at a nearby house with his brother, 2-year-old Damani T. Terry.  Damani was hit by the van.

Archie Brown Jr., 40, was driving the van about 5:10 p.m. Sunday in the 4600 block of N. 48th St., near Wahl Park in Milwaukee when he hit Damani, who had run into the road, according to Milwaukee police.

Brown immediately jumped out and was reportedly grieving and upset as he stood over the body.

Police have said there were no suspects in custody.  Milwaukee police continued on Monday to work on identifying the shooting suspect.

In the late afternoon, Attorney Michael Hupy offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot Brown.  An upset Hupy said it was the fourth time ever he has offered a reward in a murder case.

Police Captain Timothy Heier said the 41-year-old driver remained at the scene to help and was then shot along with the teenager, who was not a passenger.

Sky News reports the driver was 41, whereas The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel states he was 40.

The driver was identified by his father.  Archie Brown, Sr. said his son was the father of four daughters, including one who was six months old.

Strange? Georgia Cop Shoots Unarmed Naked Man

Where could the man possibly have hidden a gun?

A naked man, Anthony Hill, who was a veteran, was shot and killed by a police officer on Monday at an apartment complex in Chamblee, GA, northeast of Atlanta, states the New York Times.

He was black, unarmed, and was acting mentally ill, sources claim.

Israeli Police Hit In Palestinian Car Attack

A Palestinian has rammed his car into a group of Israeli pedestrians in Jerusalem, according to the BBC. He injured six policewomen, police say.

It happened on the seam of East and West Jerusalem, on the same junction as a previous attack last year.

Police say the driver tried to stab people before he was shot and seriously wounded by a security guard.

Three Muslim-American Students Killed In Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Three Muslims, including a newly-wed couple, were shot dead in their home in a North Carolina neighborhood in the US.  All three victims were shot in the head, sources told WRAL News.  A motive has not yet been confirmed.

Students Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, his wife Yusor Mohammad, 21, and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19, were found dead at their apartment in Chapel Hill near the University of North Carolina (UNC) campus, according to Yahoo News.

Barakat was a second-year dental student at UNC, and Mohammad was due to begin her dental studies.  They were married in December.

A 46-year-old man, identified by police as Craig Stephen Hicks, has been charged with three counts of first degree murder.

Police arrived at the building complex following reports of gunshots at 5:11pm on Tuesday. The man reportedly turned himself in later than evening.

“It is with deep sadness that we share with you the news that the victims included Deah Barakat, a second-year student in the School of Dentistry, and his wife, Yusor, who had planned to begin her dental studies here in the fall. Her sister, Razan, a student at N.C. State University, was also killed,” UNC said in a statement.

Teen Girl Gets Shot In Police Station

Police have released a surveillance video that captured the shooting of 17-year-old Kristiana Coignard on Jan. 22 in the police station in Texas.

Coignard, who had struggled with mental illness, visited the Longview Police Department in Texas. According to the police, she brandished a weapon and that’s when police officers shot and killed the teenage girl.

One cannot determine from the camera footage whether she had a weapon in hand.

Police told the victim’s grandmother and aunt that video of the incident exists and have now released it.
