Cancer-Fighting Kid Gets One Day Contract With Hockey Team: MSNBC

11-year old Tony Campisi, who has fought cancer since he was 4, was a member of his favorite hockey team for a day. He got a one-day contract with the Philadelphia Flyers and witnessed a shootout victory over Nashville from a seat on the team bench.

“Thanks to the Philadelphia Flyers, star forward Jakub Voracek and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the 11-year-old enjoyed a weekend he will never forget,” wrote Pennlive.

The Campisi family – Tony, his parents, Donna and Kevin Campisi, and younger brother, Nicholas – was whisked to Philadelphia by limousine on Thursday night.

On Friday, Tony suited up for practice at his own locker in the Flyers’ practice rink in Voorhees, N.J.; signed a “one-day contract” with general manager and Flyers legend Ron Hextall, and spent Friday evening at Dave & Buster’s, a restaurant/arcade, with Voracek and his girlfriend.

Saturday afternoon, the Flyers had a 3-2 shootout victory over the NHL-leading Nashville Predators. “Call it karma; Voracek – who hosted the Campisis in his suite – got the Flyers rolling in the shootout by scoring first,” writes Pennlive.

After the game, he presented Tony with a regulation jersey signed by the team.  The Campisis had no idea a weekend like that was in store.

Who Is Tony Perkins?

Who is Tony Perkins?

Wikipedia states: “Anthony Richard ‘Tony’ Perkins (born March 20, 1963) is president of the Family Research Council, a conservative public policy and lobbying organization based in Washington, D.C. Perkins was previously a police officer and television reporter, served two terms as a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives and unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate in 2002.”

According to Right Wing Watch: “Last week, the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins appeared on the ‘Point Of View’ radio program to discuss his participation in the marriage conference hosted by the Vatican in November, saying that the event has convinced him that the Religious Right will win the fight against gay marriage in America because ‘we’re on the side of the one who wrote history.'”

The Southern Poverty Law Center listed the Family Research Council as an anti-gay hate group in 2010, and Perkins is a frequently-booked anti-gay marriage and anti-LGBT pundit.
