Right-Wing Pundit Bill Kristol: Walker In ‘Spring Training’ In Regards To Foreign Policy

In a Politico report on Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s foreign policy, The Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol called the governor “in spring training” on the subject.

Walker broke away from the GOP 2016 scrum two months ago but alarmed Republican donors and establishment leaders when he spoke like a novice on foreign policy, states MediaITE.  Walker claimed his successful battle against public sector unions had given him the ability to stand up to ISIS, and he said that Ronald Reagan’s breaking of the Air Traffic Controller’s Union was the most significant foreign policy decision of his lifetime.

President Obama also took a swing at him, telling Walker to “bone up” on his foreign policy.

That is what Walker has apparently been doing by surrounding himself with Republican foreign policy experts and cramming.

Here is the right-wing pundit Kristol’s quote on Walker:

“In spring training – especially when a player is learning a new position – you want to see basic talent, hard work and real improvement,” said Kristol to Politico. “In Scott Walker’s case, so far we’ve seen all three.”

Slager Not Eligible For The Death Penalty

Michael Slager

North Charleston Patrolman 1st Class Michael T. Slager will not face the possibility of the death penalty in connection with the shooting of Walter Scott, states the Charleston newspaper Post and Courier.

The circumstances don’t meet the criteria necessary under S.C. law, Charleston County’s chief prosecutor said Monday.

Some news outlets claimed that Slager would be eligible for the death penalty due to his crime.

Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson said she carefully reviewed the state’s death penalty statute, which lists 22 aggravating circumstances that can trigger the state to seek lethal punishment.  None applied in this case, she said.

Those offenses include murders committed during kidnapping, robbery, drug trafficking and a host of other circumstances.

“Under South Carolina law, this case is not death penalty-eligible,” said Wilson.  Wilson’s office will be in charge of prosecuting Slager.

“There are aggravating circumstances which can take a murder case from being a maximum of life to death being the maximum sentence. None of those factors are present in this case,” said Wilson.

Is There Still A Scott Walker Scandal Going On?

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker is one of the brightest stars in the Republican Party, and he has very clear ambitions to run for President in the near future.

Before he hits the national stage, however, he still has a lot of investigations to overcome.

Mike Papantonio discusses this with Brendan Fischer from the Center for Media and Democracy.

Presidential Contender Scott Walker Not Sure Of Obama’s Religion

Not only does Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) not know whether President Barack Obama loves America, he also appears to be unaware that the president is a Christian.

In an interview with the Milwaukie Journal-Sentinel, Walker was asked, “Do you think the president loves America?”  This was in reference to former mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani’s comments.

The possible 2016 White House candidate said he’s never asked the president about it.

“I assume most people in this country love America. And to me I don’t think it’s worth getting into the battle over whether he does or he doesn’t,” Walker told the Journal Sentinel. “He can handle that himself. I know I do. And I know there are great people in this country who love this country and who … feel this country’s exceptional and it doesn’t necessarily align by party. I think there are Republicans and Democrats and plenty of people in between. I’ve never asked the president so I don’t really know what his opinions are on that one way or another.”

Walker told The Associated Press: “You should ask the president what he thinks about America.”

Recently, the Washington Post asked Walker if he thought the president is a Christian.

“I don’t know,” the potential 2016 candidate told The Washington Post at the winter meeting of the National Governors Association in Washington, D.C.

“I’ve actually never talked about it or I haven’t read about that,” Walker said of Obama’s faith. “I’ve never asked him that. You’ve asked me to make statements about people that I haven’t had a conversation with about that. How [could] I say if I know either of you are a Christian?”

“First and foremost, my Christian faith gives me a perspective and security that I don’t think I would have otherwise: that I am loved. That, at the end of the day, God is in control,” Obama said in a 2012 interview according to The Huffington Post.

According to an AP survey, 18 percent of Americans thought Obama is Muslim in 2012.   In 2010, 17 percent of Americans believed he is Muslim.

Former Federal Judge Regrets Sending Man To Prison For 55-Years Over Marijuana

Do judges ever have a conscience that catches up with them?  Do they ever regret harsh punishments? Are their hands ever tied over sentencing?

Weldon Angelos was just 24 years old when he was sentenced to 55 years in federal prison for three marijuana sales, according to Yahoo! News.  He is one of the hundreds of thousands of federal prisoners serving decades-long sentences for non-violent crimes, thanks to mandatory minimum sentencing laws created in the 1980s during America’s war on drugs.

Angelos may not live long enough to experience freedom again.

His case has haunted the federal judge that put him there.

“I do think about Angelos,” said Paul Cassell, a now-retired federal judge in the Utah circuit. “I sometimes drive near the prison where he’s held, and I think, ‘Gosh he shouldn’t be there. Certainly not as long as I had to send him there. … That wasn’t the right thing to do. The system forced me to do it.”

Back in 2002, Angelos was an aspiring music producer and a father of two young boys living in Salt Lake City. Determined to make it big, he founded his own record company, eventually collaborating with big names like Snoop Dogg.

But Angelos told ABC News he also started dealing pot on the side.

Federal authorities caught wind of Angelos’s dealings and set up three stings, using a criminal informant to buy about $1,000 worth of marijuana from him. There was one critical detail in the case – during the deals, the criminal informant claimed Angelos had a gun.

The case went to federal court and Angelos was convicted in federal court of selling narcotics while in possession of a firearm.

These offenses fall under mandatory minimum sentencing laws, and prosecutors treated each of the three marijuana deals as its own individual offense. This is called “stacking” the charges.  It means Angelos was facing three prison terms, stacked on top of each other. All in– 55 years in prison, with no possibility of parole.

When Cassell delivered his ruling in the Angelos case, he was quick to point out how severe the sentence seemed compared to violent crimes.

“If he had been an aircraft hijacker, he would have gotten 24 years in prison. If he’s been a terrorist, he would have gotten 20 years in prison. If he was a child rapist, he would have gotten 11 years in prison. And now I’m supposed to give him a 55-year sentence? I mean, that’s just not right,”

Governor Walker Stumbles On Foreign Policy Issues In Interview With ABC News’ Martha Raddatz

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker came into his interview with ABC News’ Martha Raddatz Sunday morning riding a first-place showing in an Iowa GOP poll, perhaps benefiting from the unceremonious exit of Mitt Romney.

Walker seemed to stumble in his interview when ABC News’ Martha Raddatz quizzed him harder than most would on his foreign policy views.
